Topic:        "The Unfolding Role of Dental Professionals in the Prevention of                                                                               HPV Related Oropharyngeal Carcinomas"

Speaker:                                    Dr. Charlotte Cortis DDS    
       Dr. Cortis is a 1993 graduate of The University of Detroit School of Dentistry.  She has attended  numerous HPV Oral/Oropharyngeal lectures and symposiums at the state and national levels. Currently she is part of an advisory committee along with members representing Michigan Dept. of Health and Human Services, American Cancer Society, Spectrum Health, Henry Ford Hospital to bring further awareness to HPV prevention through an interdisciplinary approach.


  • Discussion of prevention of HPV through vaccination recommendations.
  • Prevalence of oral HPV infections, oral / oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma rates.
  • Discussion points for patient / parent regarding vaccination as prevention.
  • Review of malignant lesion evaluation, management, the use of adjunct diagnostics, follow-up and ADA referral recommendations.
  • Tips for team training to develop communication strategies for implementation on HPV communications in the dental practice.
